Hi, the truth is I use Chrome OS Flex on TP Edge E530.
Honestly, this is the output

*~$ cat /proc/version *Linux version 6.6.41-03520-gd3d77f15f842 (
cros-***@chromium.org) (Chromium OS 18.0_pre516547 clang version 18.0.0
(/mnt/host/source/src/third_party/llvm-project
28a8f1b901389c1e478407440f7ccf2d41c71b64), LLD 18.0.0) #1 SMP
PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat, 10 Aug 2024 02:57:26 +0000

Even when the good old laptop is connected to the power supply, the battery
begins discharging after about one hour.

If I also use an external HDMI monitor, the discharge begins immediately.

Do any of you have suggestions about solving this mystery ?
The charger is fine when used in another laptop.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Roberto

Strictly, this is off topic here. ChromeOS Flex is ChromeOS for
non-Chromebooks. It's a Google product - maybe ask them.

A quick search for the ThinkPad Edge from Lenovo: the review I found was
from about 2019. It's the cheapest end of the Lenovo range. I see a range
of them available second hand online from about £99 - at this point, it
is not an expensive laptop..

If it's about five years old - it might be that the original battery has
reached the end of its life expectancy. If this is a second hand laptop, then
you don't know its previous history: if you've had it from new, it might
be time to replace the battery.

Since this is ChromeOS, this list can't really help. Install Debian and
we could perhaps advise.

Anything in logs? How are you monitoring this? It does suggest either a
dying battery or a laptop with a marginal power regulator giving low voltage.

A nice example of a multi-billion behemoth leveraging people's good
will to pick up their customer support duties.

Clever!

Cheers

Loose power supply socket on the flaky laptop?

If google allows it, try

grep '' /sys/class/power_supply/*/*

to see some numbers related to the battery an perhaps to the AC power
supply. Otherwise boot a Linux live image (e.g. from USB) and try the
same command and a one that may present battery state in a more readable
form:

upower --dump

Another laptop may be power hungry in less degree. It is better to try
another power supply with this laptop in addition.

My experience is that if AC adapter is put into a bag twice a day then
it has to be replaced or repaired after a couple of years due to cable
wearing. Additional resistance of about ~1 Ohm due to broken wires at a
bending point is enough to cause issues under some CPU load. In my case
first symptom was some noise on an external monitor connected by a VGA
cable, so I suspected a more severe problem.
