On behalf of the Community Team
People,
We need to be more understanding of people who can't articulate problems
and people who may be encountering Debian for the first time. No matter how
good and expert any one of us is, everyone started somewhere. Everybody can
make mistakes - hindsight is always 20:20 vision and every other pair of eyes
can immediately see the errors in the config file that you have spent hours
staring at. We can, each of us, confirm this from experience..
There's an element of the Community Team work that I do (when not on Debian-
user) which is about making Debian a welcoming place to be and showing the
spirit of Debian at its best for new users and people who happen on us.
The Community Team constantly refer people back to the Debian Code of Conduct
and the mailing list code of conduct as embodying the way we should work
together, the way we should react when we're online and using Debian resources.
That's also the intent behind the monthly FAQ posting here.
Even with the best of good intentions all round, that doesn't always work -
people get annoyed, people react first and regret what's been written later.
Frustration with some person who "just doesn't get it - for any value of it"
is only too natural. Sarcasm or irony as a reaction sometimes is human but
not necessarily ever appropriate.
This message is asking you all - readers, lurkers and regular posters here -
to maybe be more considerate or understanding and more helpful where you can.
It may pay off in how someone perceives Debian and whether they want to come
back and continue to engage.
All the very best, as ever,
Andy Cater
